THE GOLDFIELDS.

« The Maratoto Gold and Silver Mining Company. [By EuiCTHic Tklkokaph.—Copyright. 1 Sydn'ky, April 10. The prospectus of the Broken Hill Maratoto Silver and Gold Mining Company has been issued with capital of £85,000. The object of thu company is to purchase aid develope a block of country near liikutnia in the Thames district. The Newbery ■ Vautin Company, Auckland. Amoxgst the appliances for gold-saving in this district will be shortly introduced tlin Newbery-Vautin process, which is simply on the chlorinisation principle. A company has been incorporated in London for working this patent in New Zealand, having acquired the rights from tlie patentees for that purpose from the parent or original company. The business of the company will be managed by a local board of directors, with Mr D. C MacDonniill, New Zealand Insurance Buildings, secretary ; and Messrs Jacksou and Russell, Shortiand-street, solicitors. The company, through their agent (Mr Spratt), have purchased the New Zealand Smelting Company's works at tne Thames, where operations will be started at once. Already men are employed getting the plant in order for the requisite machinery, which is now on its way out, having at date of last advices been nearly completed under the supervision of Mr Theodore Tinno, late of the firm of Messrs Fraser and Tinne, Auckland. Since the company acquired the rights to work this patent some additions have been made to the appliances, probably to make the machinery more complete and efficient for tlie treatment of our gold ores. The principle of gold-extraction by the Newberry-Vautin method is the process in use for free gold at Mount Morgan, Queensland, and also on several of the gnldfieldsin Victoria, where very satisfactory results have been obtained. Should similar success attend the introduction of this mode of gold-saving here a new era of prosperity is close at hand for the district, as the process is simple and inexpensive.
