(By telkgrap h.—own correspondent.) Parent not Responsible. Auckland, Monday, The B.M. to-day decided that a parent is not responsible for a child's fare on a tramcar. Unregistered Cyclists. The police brought a charge against a cyclist for having an unregistered machine ; the case was remanded for a week as the Waitemata Club intend to test the legality of the bve-law. It is felt that the tax is unjust seeing that owners of private carriages pay no fee. Supreme Court. At the Supreme Court Court to-day Harriet Dewson and Henry Lemhen, charged with stealing £G 10s from a man named Burkey, in a brothel, were found not guilty and discharged. Licensing Petitions. The petitions presented by the Moderate and Temperance parties in connection with the City North and South Licensing Elections were heard to-day. The R.M. reserved his decision. Mr Mqrpeth's Illness. There is no change for tho better in Capt. Morpeth's condition to day, Death of Mr Browning. Prior to the commencement of business at the .Supreme Court to-day, the Crown Prosecutor, Mr Williamson addressed the Court with reference to the sad death of Mr R. Browning in most feeling terms, and asked that the business of the Court might be so ordered that the members of the profession engaged therein might attend the funeral. His Honour replied that it was very sad that one so young and promising had been taken away from thorn. ai|d made an order as desired.
