THE REDUCTION ON BOROUGH VALUATION.
♦ TO TUB KDITOn. Sir,—At the Assessment Court, on Saturday, Mr Kiidx, as agent for the Rev. 11. Burrouehs, Trustee, Church Society, stated on oath that " lie could not get £20 per acre, ,: for a block of five acres, having a frontage to Collingwood and Angleseastreets ; and on the authority of this statement tho valuation was reduced to six per cent, on capital value, or .£<! per annum for tho five lots. This property is situated within three hundred yards of the banks and post-othee, and has a frontage of :340 feet to Anglesea-street and of over 700 feet to Colluigwood-street. Surely town lots must be going abegging in Hamilton ! and yet we hear of intondiug investors going back without buying, because the price asked for freeholds is too high. After the rising of the court being authorised by a gentleman to buy the block at its assessed value, I went to Mr Knox and offered him a ten per cent, deposit on account of the purchaser, but he declined to accept it. So much for objector s evidence.—l am, &c, Frki) Gaudin.
