This French gunboat Filbert, from Noumea, brings news that two ships were preparing to sail for the New Hebrides to bring back the French troops, and it was expected that the evacuation would bo completed by the 15th instant. The man Carroll- Winter, who murdered his wife, and afterwards attempted to commit suicide, is still alive. A verdict of wilful murder has been returned against Merritt, the man who stabbed the jockey, at Walialda, on Saturday last. It appears that Osborne was his mate, No cause for the crime is known.
