TORPEDO LAUNCH RUNS DOWN A BOAT.
[UY TtXKGKAI'H —i'IIIMS ASSOCIATION.! \VELLINGTON, Wednesday. On Saturday last the torpe lo launch van into a boat, ami one of the ciew of the latter had a narrow escape. The result was that an inquiry was held to-day by Captain Falconer at the instance of the Defence Minis ter, and he has reported that the mishap was caused through Private Giuv, steersiu>n of the launch, failing to see the whaling gig which he ran down.
General Scliaw, who was consulted on tinsubject, stated tint the whaling gig lay Alia the water, m I that Gray would be unable to see her from where ho was standing. In consideration of this fact, and of Gray's bravery in jumping overboard and rescuing seaman Yarrow, the Hon. Mr Fergus h is' dceided to take no further action in the matter.
