SPORTING.

The Waikato Jockey Club. A mkhtino of the committee appointed by the above newly-tormed Club met at Cambridge on Saturday evening to fix the date oil which the race meeting is to be held, and also to draw up a programme. It was found a difficult matter to arrange the date of the raees, in consequence of every public holiday having already been appropriated by some of the neighbouring Chili*, and it was pointed out that tho Waikato Horticultural Show would be held on S. Patrick's Day, and would doubtless be patronised by many of the settlers ; but it wits thought by the majority that it would be a bettor day than the Queen's Birthday ; therefore it was finally fixed upon. The races will consequently be held on March 17th. Mr Arthur liach was appointed secretary to the committee, and the following programme was decided upon :— Handicap Hurdles, 2osovs, 2 miles, over eight hurdles ; Novel Race, 25sovs., miles. Winner to be. the property of the Club; Waikato Jockey Club Handicap, 50sovs., 2 miles; Selling Hack Race, 15sovs., 1 mile : Redwood Stakes Handicap, 2osovs., 1.1 miles: Selling Steeplechase, of 2Usovs., 2A miles. The programme is a very good one, and should draw a good number of entries, and the meeting ought to be a success, as ilr Allwill has given the use of the racecourse and Mr Amaboldi is going to work his totalisator free of charge. The racecourse being close to a railway station should also add to the success of the undertaking.
