DISTRESS IN LONDON.
(BY KIECTKIO TELEGRAPH —COPYKIfiHT.) LONDON. February 2. A deputation, including Cardinal Manning aud the Anglican Bishop of Bedford, waited on the Marquis of Salisbury to-day, and asked that the Government should take some steps to relieve the distress existing among the poor in London. The Premier was very guarded in his reply, but expressed much sympathy with the object of the deputation, and promised (hat inquiry should be made into the causes of the distress, with a view to alleviating the condition of the poor.
