THE MELBOURNE EXHIBITION.

« | By Elkctkio Tklegu.u'h-Copykight.l London, February 2. The Times urges owners of valuable pictures to lend them for exhibition at the Melbourne Centennial Exhibition. Wellington, Friday. At a meeting of the Melbourne Exhibition Commissioners to-day it was stated that Mr Brydone. Manager of the NewZealand and Australian Land Company, will exhibit grain, grass-seed, cheese and butter, and also cattle, at the Agricultural Show, and will endeavour to make a show of the ISSS clip of wool. The Hon. Minister of Public Works has authorised the free carriage of exhibits over the X. Z. railways. The Minister of Mines has offered the Commissioners the loan of any specimens of New Zealand minerals in the Mines Department, and all information will be afforded them. The Commissioner fit Trade and Customs lias instructed all collectors of Customs to facilitate in everyway in their power the transmission of exhibits. The opening date for holding a special show in connection with the annual products is not yet decided, and probably will not be known for four of five months. With reference to pictures and works admitted into the special art gallery, they must first be approved by the Fine Arts Committee, and any work that may be refused admission to the galleries may be used to decorate the general court under ordinary regulations, but cannot be entered for competition as works of art.
