A MARKET FOR NEW ZEALAND HONEY.

Hems is a piece of good news for bee farmers. Mr T. Conway, of Moeraki, Oust, recently shipped home through the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association 19 kegs of honey, and the result being eminently satisfactory, lie has kindly permitted us to give the particulars here for the benefit of all v/hoin it may concern. The It) kegs contained }t}ewt, '3cirs. 31b. of honey, which was sold i(i Londqn at less 2J per cent., the kegs being given in. This was about equal to 4:{d per It. The total charges in London, including freight and storage (six weeks), came to a fraction over £d per lb, leaving the net result in I oncloii 4 ; } d per lb. I'rom this has to be deducted cost of kegs, insurance, and shipping charges in New Zealand, which amount to aljout jcl per lb., leaving 3.x_d per lb. as the net result to tlje shipper , in Christchurch. This is a pleasing change for the bee-farmer to contemplate. For several years honey lias been a drug in the market. It has been practically unsaleable, and many who had bees have given up keeping them finding that the sales of honey would not pay for the labour expended in bringing it to market. If sales were made the price was low, and a man was'thought lucky if he gqt 2d a pound.' ivlr Con way's pnterprise and its success should change all that, and the boo-hives on a farm or in a cottage gardc.-o ought now to be found paying "for the trouble it takes to attend to them.
