HANDICAP HURDLE RACE of lusovs ; 2 miles, over 8 flights of hurdles, 3ft Gin high, with a sweep of lsov., to go to the second horse. Nominations 10s, acceptances os. 2. MAIDEN PLATE of lOsovs., l-Jmle. Weight for age. Entrance Ids. 3. MAORI HACK RACE of oOs ; post entry. One mile. Entrance 2s (jd. i. ROTORUA HANDICAP, 20so\\, 2 miles with a sweep of lsov. to go to the second horse. Nominations 15s, acceptances ss. 5. NOVEL SELLING RACE of lOsovs., lAmile. The winner to be sold by auction immediately after the race, the whole of the proceeds to go to the Club. Minimum weight 9st. Entrance 10s. 6. CONSOLATION' HANIHCAP of Ssovs. One mile. For all baatcn horses. Entrance os. Rules and Regulations. 1. Should any dispute arise in any way in connection with these races, the decision of the Stewards shall be accepted as Huni and conclusive.. 2. Nominations for the Handicaps, accompanied by a qualification fee of 1 sow must be in the hands of the Secretary on or before the 21st day of January, 1888, at 8 o'clock p.m. Acceptances and general entries on the 2nd of February 18S8, at Bp. in, both to be addressed : " Secretary R.I.C. Rotorua." 3. Three horses to start or no race. 4. All Jockeys to ride in racing costume, under a penalty of 10s, except for the Maori Hack Hace. 5. All protests must lie made in writing, accompanied by 1 sov., which will be forfeited to the Club should the protest be dismissed. 0. Entries shall contain age, pedigree and description of horses entered, previo s performances, and colours of riders. C. M. WILSON, Secretary. WAIKATO HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. The ANNNAL SHOW in connection with the above Society will :>e held in the PUBLIC HALL, HAMILTON, on SATURDAY, 17th March (St. Patrick's Day). Prize Schedule : POT PLANTS 17 Classes CUT FLOWERS 1!) Classes FRUIT 23 Classes VEGETABLES 25 Classes SUNDRIES (including Farm Produce) .. ... 1-1 Classes POULTRY 12 Classes Prizes will also be awarded under the above schedule in the Amateur and Cottagers' Classes with the exception of the Special Prizes enumerated. Offers of Special Prizes will be thankfully received by the Committee. Donors will kindly communicate with GEO. EDGECUMBE, Hon. Sec, Hamilton. RULES FOR CONDUCT OF SHOW. 1. The exhibits to be arranged by a sub-cominittec of three, elected by the general committee. 2. All exhibits are to be labelled with a sealed envelope, the number of the exhibit outside, and the exhibitor's name inside. 3. No one to act as judge in any class in which he may be an exhibitor. 4. Any protest must be made in writing as soon as the awards are made known, otherwise the decision of the judges shall be final. 5. Prizes to be given in proportion to the income of the Society, and the schedule to be published at least six weeks before the time appointed for the show. 6. Non-subscribers may exhibit in any class on payment cf 2s od, and be entitled to free admission, 7. All exhibits not claimed by the owners at the cloje of the show will be sold by auction, and the proceeds to be devoted to the funds of the Association. 8. No exhibitor to be present while the awards arc being made. i). No exhibit to be removed until the close of the show. 10. The committee to receive and stage any exhibits forwarded to them (carriage paid) by exhibitors who cannot attend personally. 11 No exhibitor to compete for more than one p ize in each class, with the same variety, and nothing to be shown unless it has been the bona fide property of the exhibitor for two months before the show. Any exhibitor violating this rule to be disqualified. 12. That the judges be empowered to withold prizes from any class which may be considered as unworthy of reward. 13. That competitors be required to have the name of each specimen, as far as known, plainly written and attached to the same. 14. That the place of exhibition be open the day previous to the show from 12 noon to 9 p.m., and on the following day to 9 a.m. for the reception of exhibits, after which no exhibit will be admitted, and the place to be closed by ten o'clock. The show to be open to the public at one o'clock. 15. The definition of the classes shall be as follows : Class 1, All Comers ; Class 2, Amateurs; Class 3, Cottagers, Artisans, and Day Labourers. In Class 2, an Amateur shall be considered as one who only employs occasional assistance. Class 3 shall be considered those who cultivate their exhibits personally. JG. Exhibitors to give notice to the secretary of the Show Committee six days (Monday 12th March) before the day of show of the classes and numbers they propose to compete in.
