FIRST-FOOTING AT HUNTLY.
TO THE EDITOR. Si n,—l very much regret that my endeavours to describe the manner in which the pood people (if Huntly celebrated the ad vent of the New Year did not meet with the approval of your correspondent, "Auld Reekie." Why he has taken umbrage at my remarks I canuot tell, and as I made no allusion to any individual, except to the saurian, " Auld Reekie's" indignation is still more inexplicable. Unless he and the saurian are in league, I cannot account for his taking up the defence of the uncijtiny monster. There are some who say 'hat "Auld Reekie" and the saurian are _.ne and the same, and certainly one of our own. species wrapped up in a sheet, with a long red night cap on, would be quite capable of passing for the muoh-dreaded monster. The '• lirst-footer" who received the print of the saorian's hoof on his rear extremities also claims to have identified the monster with "Auld Rookie," for the man with the 17A inch hoof is well-known, to the local shoemaker, and the chain of evidence required Lo bring the offender to justice is almost complete. So that it is probable the saurian will yet have to bid farewell to the precincts of butcher's shops, and make the acquaintance of the Mount Eden officials, who, it is to be hoped, will be able to bring the uncanny monster to subjection,—l am. yoms, &c, CORHKSrOXDEXT.
