THE TOBACCO GROWING INDUSTRY.
,?. . [ISY TELEGRAPH. —OWN COIIHESTONDKNT.] Auckland, Last Night. The Secretary of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce has received a circular from the London Chamber of Commerce, in reference to two prizes of £50 each offered for best samples of home and colonial grown tobacco, with a request that the offer be made known throughout this district. The objects of the Loudon Chamber is the ascertainment of the best sources from which tobacco can be supplied to the English market, and the extent to which British possessions can compete with foreign countries. A number of conditions are attached. The quantity sent must be 400 lbs weight, consisting of an average sample and the names of the locality and the grower must be attached. The other conditions refer to matters of detail. The, samples of the tobacco growers : in the United Kingdom must be l sent for inspection on or before . the Ist of March next, and those of othsr 1 places before the Ist of December next.
