THE CROFTERS.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
(By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) London, January 11. A gunboat and marines have been ordered to Stornoway.
Lady Mathersou, who owns large estates in Lewis Island, has refused the demand of the Crofters' Land League, that crofters shall have their own holdings restored to them at reduced rentals, and suggests that the crofters should emigrate. Further outbreaks are expected to occur in consequence of the refusal of the landlords to yield to the demands of the crofters.
