WAIKATO DISTRICT HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The usual '.noiithly meeting of this board was bold yestmu.iv, in tho ]ioi'uuj.Th Council Chambers. The 'following members were present : Messrs W. A. Graham (111 the chair). Primrose, Brunskill, Olieptuell, Hunter and McDonald. A letter was read trom Mr Hally stating that ho would not bo able to be present at the meeting on account of illness. OoHRKsroXOENCK.— A letter was received from tho Honse-stew.ud of the Auckland Hospital i closing a claim for £4 8s due for'treatment to \V. Taste, sen a ran♦way guard, raiding »t Ciiinbrtdgts had boon admitted into tbo Aiick.aiKi Hospital suffering with a bad eye. lnc acconnt wan forwarded to the father for payment.--In reply to a letter from tinboard, requesting that ?omo mo. etiry assistance be given to Heenan, in ord.v to enable him te procure an artificial leu and to help to pay his hospital fee.-, Mr D. Robertson, ;:i;.naeer for Mes.us Anderson Bros., at Waiteti, wrote, stating that a subscription was at present beint; raised for Heenau, and enclosing £10 from juv men engaged on tho works as a volntit.isy contribution to the funds of the ptt..:. -- Another claim for €10 12s w.is rec-; from tho Auckland Hospital, for fees O' ll ' by Henry Cowan, who was admitted to tlio hospital suffering from suvoro injuries to his legs, caused by his being run over by a cart. On receipt of this chum the secretary at onco forwarded a cpy to the bov s father for payment. The latter replied that lie had been billed for this by tho Auckland Board, but only at the rate of 21s per week, whilo this Board was charging at the rate of 28s per week, and also stating that he was not able to pay the whole amount, and wrote to the Auckland Board asking for a reduction of the charges to l-ls per week. As soon as lie heard from the Auckland Board Mr Cowan promised to write to this Board.—Mr McDonald moved that no notice be taken of these accounts received from the Auckland Board where the patients or their friends were able to pay. Carried. A reply was received from tho Colonial Treasurer in reply to 0110 from the Board bearing date November 7th, stating that the only sums accruing under sec 4 clause 8S of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Act, were £55 paid to the Auckland Board in March last, and £'J 10s r>d now in course of remittance to this Board.
Mobrinsviue Concert,—A letter was received from Mr Green, enclosing £5 10s, as a voluntary contribution to tho hospital funds, the result of a concert given at Morrinsville. H. Missen.—A letter was received from H. Missen, stating that as he was recovering, he hoped to be able to goto work again in n few weeks, and thanking the Board for the relief they had granted him. Relief.—Relief was granted in the following amounts to the next meeting of the Board :—Mrs Harper, 2s Gd ; Mis Paris, _2s 6d; H. McPherson, ss; H. Missen, ss. There were no fresh applications for relief.

Charitable Aid : Widows left destitute receiving aid, 4; orphans, 21; wife deserted, 1 ; children deserted, 4 ; infirm with age and destitute, 6; sick relief, 2 ; boys at Kohimarama, 4 ; boys at Thames Orphanage, 1 ; girls at St. Mary's Orphanage, 2. Distribution of Charitable Aid —Hamilton : Mrs Heys widow, 7 children, 3 rations daily ; Mrs Shaw deserted, 1 children, 2 rations daily ; Mylroa infirm, ! ration daily ; McPherson sick relief, iis per week. Cambridge: Mrs McMahon widow, G children, 5s per week ; Mrs Harper widow, 5s per week ; Thomas Butler, 5s per week. Ngaruawahia: Mrs Kilfoylo widow, 2 children, 5s per week ; James Ferrier, infirm, 5s per week ; Richard McGrane infirm, 5s per week. Rangiriri: Mis Gray, 11 children, widow, 8s per week. Raglan: Mrs Paris, widow, grant of 10s a month. Te Aroha : Henry Missen, sick relief, 5s per week : four boys in Kohimarama Industrial School, £1 10s per week ; 1 boy in Thames Orphanage, 7s (id per week ; 2 girls, Si. Mary 's Orphanage Ponsonby, lis. It is also expedient thai I siiottid c- li the intention of tho Board to the necessity of pro viding a refuge for the old and infirtn which at present have to bo accommodated in the Hospital thereby entailing additional claims upon tho Hospital department. It is, however, gratifying to all concerned to be able to state that the working of tho Hospital has been satisfactory and that Dr. Kenny and the staff have performed tho duties imposed upon them without objection or cause of complaint. It is also encouraging to this Board to be able to record tho intcest shown, and practical support given to their hospital by the public of Waikato, as shown by the following lift of voluntary contributions which have been received by the secretary from the several parts of the district, viz. : —Chairman Pirongia Road Board, ss; Mayor of Hamilton, os; Mr W. Burnand, Hamilton, 5s ; Members Tuhikaramea Ladies' Cricket Club per Mrs Vicknrs, £3 10s; Mr F. Templor and Hamilton Coral Society, pro- > ceeds of two concerts, £15 ; Hospital Sunday collection, T'auwhare congregation, per the Rev. R.O'C. Biggs, £1 5s od: Total, , £6019s 6d, which entitles the Board to re- | ceive from the Government £73 3s 4d, j being a subsidy of 24s in the pound, as provided by the Aot, and which will therefore ; benefit the funds at the disposal of the | Board to the extent of £13-1 2s lOd. Con- j sidering the depressed times and the many claims upon tlieni, the above list of voluntary donations reflects very great credit upon all who have been parties thereto. The books showing the method in which the accounts of the board are being kept are laid upon the table fa? your inspection, and the Managing Committee will be glad to receivo and consider any suggestions of members regarding the same.
