Mason's Billy • • ■" Jonathan started with the lead, which he ki pt for a round, but the jockey (a native) soon burst the plucky little black, and he baulked at the fourth hurdle. Warlock baulked again at the hurdle coining on to the, straight on die first round, and he was out of it. The race after Jonathan baulked lay between Dick Hunt and Monitor, who kept well together, Monitor leading till nearly a mile and a half was covered, when Monitor ran wide, letting Dick Hunt take the inside running. DickHunt took first position, which lie kept till going over the second last hurdle from home, when Monitor gained half a length aver the jump, but Dick Hunt soon recovered his position, which he maintained to the finish, winning by a length and a half. Monitor coining in under tho whip, Bi'ly a bid third. Jonathan's jockey deserved a ducking for iiis bad riding. After the baolk be was out of tho race, but the fellow whj rode him started again as though he was finishing on the straight; the result was the game little horso struck the next ] hurdle, "heavily throwing the jockey, who was unhurt-. The horses weso got away to a good start, after one false attempt, tho horses keeping in a bunch for three-quarters of a mile, when tho leaders drew awav in tho order named, the finish being a very close one.
