COMPLIMENTARY DINNER TO COLOUR-SERGEANT WHITE.
Last night a complimentary dinner was given to Colour-Sergeant White at the Waikato Hotel, Hamilton East, by the officers, men, and honorary members of the Hamilton Light Infantry Volunteers. The spread reflected great credit on Host Bright, and it is needless to say that ample justice was done to the good things provided. After the removal of the cloth the chairman (Capt. Reid) proposed the usual loyal and patriotic toasts, which were drank in bumpers. In proposing the toast of the evening, the chairman in alluding to Colour-Sergeant White, referred to his exemplary conduct during his connection with the corps, and expressed the regret of the company at his departure, and wished him not only success but that he would enjoy better health in his new sphere. Edgooumbe proposed the health of the members of Parliament for the districts, Major Jackson and Mr J. B. The toast was drank with enthusiasm. Sergeant Pearson proposed the health of His Worship the Mayor and Town Councillors, which was responded to by the Mayor and Mr John Knox (honorary members), Lieut, Coombes proposed the health of Colonel Forbes and the honorary members, which was responded to by His Worship the Mayor and the honorary members present.
