At an inquest held on the body of a child found smothered in a box, from the evidence given by the mother, a single woman named .lane Wheelan, it seems that two cidi.iien slept in a large box with the iid against the waiL No evidence, however, was given to show that tin; lid of the box hud fallen down, as the elder child is all right, whilst the youngest one was smothered. It was ten weeks old and found on its face. The doctor thought it had laid in that position four or live hours. The jury found a verdict of “ Acciden l aliy smothered,” hut added a rider. “That great blame attached to the mother for not having proper accommodation for her children to sleep in.”
