LATE HOME NEWS.

London’, November 11. A SLT.u kstion was made some time ago that the ship Endeavour, in which Captain Cook explored the Australian coasts in 1709, should be procure! ami preserved as a relic in Sydney Harbour. The Imperial Government were solicited to present the vessel to New South Wales, but the Admiralty had not been able to trace it beyond 1773, when it was sold out of tho Queen’s Navy, and it is supposed to have been broken up long ago. The Right Hon. E. Marjoribanks, M.B. for Berw.ckshire, and Lady Fanny Marjoribanks, sail for India immediately. This lady intends to continue her travels to Australia, where she will spend the early months of next year, returning to England in May. It is a remarkable fact that the tide of emigration lias turned from Australasia to British North America During the first ten months of 18SG, 36,333 emigrants left ports in the United Kingdom for Australasia, while only 29,091 proceeded to Canada. This year tho situation is reversed. During the first ten month > of ISS7, 42,704 persons have sailed for British North America, as compared with 28,797 to Australasia. Lady Broome, the popular wife of tho Governor of Western Australia, is contributing a story of colonial life to the Boy’s Own Paper. English lads who follow the adventures of “Harry Treverton” will glean a good deal of genuine knowledge of the pleasures and dangers of life in the Australian bush. Lady Broome, it may be remarked, was the widow of Colonel Sir George R. Barker. She knows a great deal of the colonies, having experience of the West Indies, New Zealand, and now of Western Australia. Many old New Zealanders will regret to hear that Major Edward William Henry Webb, C.8., who served with distinction tli rough the Maori war in 1864-7, died at Hove on the 31st ult. The new torpedo crusier Tartar, a vessel of the Archer type, and possessing a speed of over 17 knots per hour, is likely to be commissioned on the Australian station. If half the powerful vessels which rumour allots to Australia are really sent to the Antipodes, quite a powerful fleet will be available in the event of emergency.
