THE ACTRESS AND THE QUACK DOCTOR.

A Yofsc. and pretiy actress in Paris lias just been the victim of an unlucky mishap owing to the charlatanism of a mock doctor. -Some mouths ago the quack in question opened a splendid suite of roomiu a building on tho Grand Boulevard, and announced that he had iufalliablc method of curing hoarscncs and diseases of tho throat by inhalation. He did not purchase a degree, like so many of his compeers, but, simply heralded himself on bills and in newspapers, as “ Dr. I’itchit • chine, of Beloochistan, member of all the Academies.” The actress allowed herself to be deceived by the representations of the pseudo throat-healer. She was engaged by an impresario for a six months' tour in Russia and Austria, and she found suddenly that she had become quite hoarse. The young lady accordingly went to Pitchitchine’s magnificent establishment on the boulevards. The actress’ head was fir.-t enveloped in a cloud of cashmere, and she was told to inhale the e uitents of a tube. She did so. and in a moment fainted away nearly suffocated. Tho quack became al irnied, and had to send away for a doctor, who revived the victim. The actress went home in a cab and found that besides being incapacitated from singing she was hardly able to speak. Her impresario then made her cancel her engagement, and to indemnify herself she has brought an action against the pseudo-native of Beloochistan.
