T«» THE EDITOR, t'l'.t, —Permit me. through the valuble medium of your widely circulated journal, to claim the attention of the general public, (and e-pecially that of the members of Mr \ .oh- - Kailway Scheme committee) to the following extract from the Auckland Evening Stir, of the l oth inst:—Before the Hallways Hill was passed, Mr T. Thompson took the opportunity of referring to the fact that a number of Auckland members hid broken pledges given at the election that they would suppirt the proposal for a trial of the Vaile railway scheme. He had done his l>est to secure, a trial of the system, and complained that they had received no assistance from the members who had given very strong pledges on tho subject, including Major .Hickson and Mr Whyte. Major •lacksoa subsequently asset ted that he had done Ins bO't to assist the scheme:—Gf course, no one can suppose that such upright gentlemen as the members for Waikato and Waipi, would fail to j-rf cm any of their busting" pledge-. At the same time it may prove interesting t« yur readers Jo learn what is meant by Major Jackson's " having done" "his be-t to assist the scheme."--I am, yours etc.. Thomas Greshax,
