GARDEN PARTY.

Thk Moonlight Garden Baity in Mrs Gwynne’s garden on Thursday attracted a very large number of visitors ; there weie fully two hundred and fifty people present, together with the olficers and men of the Hamilton Light Infantry in their bright uniforms. The grounds were tastefully lit up with coloured lanterns, and a stage with footlights had been erected for the convenience of singers. Tliere was also a music stand fur the use of the Hamilton Volunteer Brass Band, which was in attendance, and made the air seem gay with its excellent music. There was also a side show, under the care of a comical little old man as showman, in which a Bengal tiger, kindly lent for the occasion by Col, Forbes, was exhibited, Mr. D. Lees: gave a splendid exhibition of the Indian Club exercise, using 01b and 301b chibs. The scene under the brilliant light of a full moon, was a very pleasant one, and the expansive lawn in capital condition for dancing. Several songs and glees were given by members of the Choral Society, which were highly appreciated. Notwithstanding the temptations offered by the beautiful lawn and good music, we were surprised to see so few of those present engaged in dancing. So largo a number abstained from joining in the principal enjoyment of the evening that the whole proceedings lacked the animation and spirit that should have been imparted to them. The entertainment has been a financial success, and we congratulate those who organised it, Mr Panned deserving special mention therewith. We are also pleased to say Mrs Cwynne has no complaint to make of any injury to her garden, the best of order having been observed by the visitors generally.
