The poiiee in <• ml favouring to (II sjHT.se tin- mob were set upon and stoned, and uhimatclv were compelled to charge tin- rioters many of whom were injured. It had been intended to hold a meeting at Limerick in honour of liic .Manchester martyrs, hut the authorities “ proclaimed " it. riot ensued, and the moh stoned tile barracks. ‘lwo hundred of the police repeatedly charged the .Tourl. and IS of the rioters received rather severe injuries. A meeting, called for a similar purpose, was successfully held at Liuhlin, and was attended hy 12,00U people. .Mr Ihivitt savagely attacked the Government for their treatment of Ireland. The Fenians in the South of Ireland are becoming active.
