TE AROHA.

Thu Mail Service.— The following letter as been received by the chairman of the Town Board in reply to the petition sent a short time ago to {.lie Bostmaster-General, asking for a re-establishment of the daily mail service between Te Aroha and Auckland, via Waikato: —“Wellington, 23rd November, 1887. Sir, —I have the honour by direction of the Hon. the PostmasterGeneral to acknowledge the receipt of your letter «f the 10th inat., forwarding the petition for a mail service by coach between To Aroha and Morrinsville on the days when the train does not run to To Aroha. I am to express regret that the Department has not been able, up to the present, to arrange for a service by coach on terms wliich can he accepted. Negotiations with the object of having the cost reduced to a fair sum are still going on, however, and it is hoped the petitioners’ wishes may yet be met. I have the honour, etc., etc., (Signed) W. Gray, Secretary.” With regard to the cost an offer has been made by Mr E. Gallagher, coach proprietor, to convey the mails at ten shillings and sixpence per week for the three mails from Te Aroha to Morrinsvile, and the same amount for the return. As the introduction of the parcels post has added greatly to the weight of the mails, tips charge 'cannot be considered excessive, although it appears to be so by the department. It is still hoped, however, that tho matter will be arranged, and that the annoyances occasioned by the present unsatisfactory service will shortly come to an end. Town Hoard Elections.— The election to fill the vacancies at the Town Board has been fixed for Friday, !ILh December, and nominations will he received on the oth. Mill. Orump'is the Returning Otiicer.
