THE LATE COUNTY ELECTION.
TO THU EDITOR. But, —Will yon allow me to trespass on your space to thank those electors who supported mo in the recent contest for the Rangirin scat in the Waikato County Council, and to tell them the circumstances which prevented my return. At the last stage, it was made a contest qf Whyte versus Russell, and although' my "first supporters had voted for Mr Whyte, when they found I had some ardent supporters who had voted for Mr Russell, they took occassion to break their pledges, and vote against me. Another reason was the general dissatisfaction felt during the previous three years : in consequence of which a large number of settlers were careless whether their rates were paid m- hot,'and on the day of the poll found to theirTegret that they were unable to remedy the evil, as they were excluded from voting. Thanking them for theirgood intentions, and those who placed me in such a creditable position on the poll,—l am, yogi's failhfnllyj Prank Hi biiahd, Rangiriri, November llltb. 1887.
