Wellington, Friday. A Eire broke out in the Wellington Club at d.ld a.in. this morning. It originated in tlui woodwork at the back of the kitchen range, and the (ire ran up the walls towards the roof. The (ire brigade managed to con line the outbreak to the .South-eastern corner of the building. A large number of inemliLM's and guests were staying at the Club, but no panic ensued. The damage is roughly estimated at tTOOO, and to the furniture at £2OO. The building is insured for ta aUO, anil the stuck, wines and furniture, for tg'.fib.
The Baptist L nioii Conference lias elected the Ilev. T. Spurgeon (Auckland) president for the ensiling year.
