RAGLAN.
K.uuiu Riiu.xu Ki.kction. —The Karini Rilling election took place mi Wednesday lasi, and was a day of great excitement here, much more than the Waipa election. Messrs S. Dando, d. K. McDonald, d. Austin and T. Mitchell ire in favour of bringing the Counties Act nto operation. Messrs Austin and Mitchell however retired the day after nomination in favour of the. two first candidates. Against the. Act were Messrs W. .lolm--fone, S. Mulsoo, J, McCracken and W. Hillingtou. On the day of election the two larter retired lo favour of the first iiuiitiuneil, but were too late in doing so to have their names erased from the voting papers. ISutlon’s mail coach had placed upon it by an ardent supporter of Comity Government a placard, desiring “all those who had the true interest of Raglan at heart, to suppoit Messrs Dando and McDonald etc.” The opposite party had prepared another statement ns “to taxation sanctioned by the Counties Act.” With slight exception the utmost good feeling prevailed throughout the day. Shortly after the the poll was closed, the. Returning Officer, Mr Bultord, road out the result of the poll, viz., S. Dando, 2li; J. K. McDonald, 24; W. Johnstone, 22 ; Wilson, 22 ; J. McCracken, 0; W. Billiugton, 0 ; declaring Messrs S. Dando, and J. K. McDonald duly elected councillors tor the Karini Riding, C'.unty of Raglan. Throe hearty cheers were given for the successful men, and also cheers for the defeated ones. The successful candidates briefly thanked the ratepayers for their election.
