The colony would certainly gain financially by the motion if it was agreed to, and become law. He believed that the saving ..f tile honorarium and the proposed reduction in the number of members of the Council would c-tfect a large reduction in the public expenditure.
Hon. Mr Oliver complimented the Attor-ney-General upon his speech, but be entirely disagreed with his premises that the country would attain a benefit by a reduction of the members of the Council. Hon. Mr Richardson moved the adj. ■urntnent of the debate. Hon. Mr Waterhouse suggested that the debate be adjourned for a week. Hon. Colonel Brett suggested that the lebate be adjourned for six months. _ Eventually the debate was adjourned to fue-day next. The Council at four o'clock adjourned to Tmtrsday next.
