Thk members of the above company met for prize firing yesterday. The weather was favuiirabh l , and over forty volunbwrs competed. There was also a good attendance of the general public, some of whom appeared to take as much interest in the scoring as the competitors themselves.
(..Gh'iicl I'orbvs, of Luke paid a viiit to the range during the day, and intim.ib'd to Giptnin Reid his intention of giving a pri//* of £2 2s. to bo lirod for about Christmas time. On Captain Reid announcing this throe cheers were given for the donor by the company, who wt;re one and all pleased to see the Colonel present. The firing was divided into three matches, the highest aggregate scorer in the three competitions to be the winner of tlio N. 55. Clothing Co.’s Trophy. Private H. Tristram, with a score of 53, takes the Trophy, Lieut. Coombes being close on his heels with a score of 52. Tristram and Coombes were ties on coming to the last range, hut the latter scoring a miss spoiled his chance, and Tristram beat him by one point. The marking was in the hands of Mr Box, late of the A.C. Porce, and was done in a manner that gave satisfaction to nil. The following are the seven highest scorers in each competition, the ties being decided according to the rules of the N.Z. Rifle Association:— Competition No. I—2ooyds.
