FIVE YEARS' SOLITARY CONFINEMENT.
M.mk. Cl.ASyriv, a mother of twelve children, was tried the other day at the Palais de Justice for attempting to murder two of her numerous oil-spring. Sim ha,l been for some time living in a mo-t disorderly way, and although nearly fifty years of age, had been in the habit of seeking lovers of from Mto IS years old. Recently she bad liestowed her affections on one to whom she was formerly nurse, and he having forsaken her, a lie resolved to commit suicide. She ac cordingly shut herself up with her two children, lighted a brazier of charcoal and awaited results. Fortunately her husband, returning home at two o'clock in the morning, was in time to save their lives. Mme. Cla-'quin, tried for attempting to murder her ehildr-n, was condemned to five years' solitary confinement.
