WAIKATO DISTRICT HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

Tiik usual monthly meeting of the above Board was buhl in the Borough found! Chambers yesterday. There were present : Messrs W. A Graham (in the chair,) Primrose, Seihion, Gwynnetli, Chepinell, McDonald, am! Hunter.

CuuitEsroNiiKNCK.—A letter was received from Mrs ISkimier, stating that she was not able to pay more than 10s per month in reduction of the hospital fees due hy her husband. It was resolved to accept the sum of las per month, provided that it was paid regularly.

Sarah Harter.—H. T. Owen wrote applying for relief in this ease ; granted, at the rate of as per week. Letters were sent to the different contractors in the various districts, asking that they become voluntary contributors towards the fandsof the hospital. Replies were received from Mr Robertson, of Waiteti, enclosing €loas a voluntary contribution, and from the Waikato Coal and Shipping Co., stating that the Board ol Directors did not see the r r way to take action in the case without the sanetiou of the shareholders. On the motion of Mr Graham it was resolved to semi a letter of thanks to Mr Roherf on. H. Misses.—Mr T. H. A letter was received from Mi.sstn, applying for charitable aid ; and it was resolved that the letter he dealt with in the usual way. For the guidance of the Secretary in this, on the motion of Mr Gwynnetli, it was resolved that it be an instruction to the Secretary that on receipt of applications of this nature lie immediately forwards the same to the member of the Board for the district in which the applicant resides.

Hospital Site.—A letter was received from Mr.l. 15. Whyte, offerin'' a piece of his land, situated on the hill above Frankton, as a site for the hospital, and suggesting that a fair price for the land would he the same as that asked for hint! in the proximity, viz., Cio per acre. During the adjournment the Hoard inspected the site, and the matter was held over until the notice of motion on the same subject was brought up by the Chairman. Hospital Endowments.—A letter was received from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, slating that the titles of the different hospital endowments were- heme prepared in the Auckland oliie-.—ln reference to tills nutter. Mr Gwynaeth moved “That the secretary he instructed to write to the chairmen of all County Councils, Road Hoards, Borough Councils, and other local bodies in the hospital district, enquiring what lands in their districts have been set apart for hospital endowments, giving numbers and acreage, with approximate. values.'’—Seconded by Mr J. K. McDonald and carried.—Mr Gwynneth next moved, “ That the secretary he instructed to write to the Auditor-General, asking what allocations he has made to this Hoard of the endowments provided for under clause SS cl fh<Hospital and Charitable Aid Institutions Act, ISSn, sub-section 2."—Seconded by Mr I'rimiose ami carried.—Mr .1. K McDonald moved, “ That the Colonial Secretary be requested to pay to this Hoard any monies having accrued under section 4 of clause SS of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Institutions Act, IS So ” Seconded bv Mr Hunter and carried.

Awash.—A copy of the ca=e stated byMr Hay re the award of the AuditorGeneral, avd forwarded to Messrs Whyte and Jackson iu Wellington, was laid on the table. Ncmberof Patients.— The Chairman stated in his report that the total number up to the present date treated in flic hospital was !?•">, comprising MI males and four females. That the amounts •hie by different local bodies in the district was £3l 9s 10.1, which, together with the £ for £ subsidy from the Government, amounts to £62 19s Sd Accounts.— Accounts to the amount of £I.aI 4s 6d were passed for payment.—lt was resolved, on the motion of Mr Gwynneth, seconded by Mr J. K. MoDouald, that the sums due to St. Mary’s Orphanage and Kohimaramara School he held over till the next meeting of the Board.

Rklilf.—Relief to the extent of 5s and 2s (id per week was granted to Mrs McMahon and Mrs Paris, respectively, for the next month. Motions, —The Chairman moved that the Board decides that the present site is the most suitable one fur an Hospital in the Waikato, and takes the necessary steps to complete the purchase of the same.—-Seconded hy Mr Scddon.—Mr Gwynneth moved, as an amendment, that the subject be postponed till the next meeting, in order to give the new Board a chance to speak on it.—Seconded by Mr Chepmc-11.—On being put to the meeting the amendment was lost, Messrs Gwynneth and Chopmull voting for, and the Chairman. Messrs Seddon, Primrose, Mel) maid and Hunter against it. The original motion was carried, the voting being vice versa.

The Chairman then moved that the Board respectfully urge upon the Govern meat the necessity for inserting in all railway and other Government contracts a clause to compel the cuiitraotor or contractors to provide for an accident fond os a moans to secure greater safety for the workmen upon the works, and to provide the means for paying the cost of Hospital treatment in ease of accident or sickness bstfailiiiir them during their employment upon the works. —Kecnudpd by Mr Chcpmcll and carried.--/ This was all the business.
