From our cable news it will ho observed (hat (lie Anglo-French Treaty Just concluded and by which the Xew Hebrides will lie evacuated by the French troops, and the neutralisation of the Suez Canal is assured, affords great satisfaction to the “dear neighbours” on both sides of the channel. The settlement of these questions, which have engaged the attention of the statesmen of both countries for alengthly period, should ho received with equal gratification hy the colonies. The amour propre of so susceptible a people as the French, was wounded in a great pleasure hy the impatience of the people in Australia, whose want of diplomacy caused an amount of irritation, that created a strain in the relations between England and France, already endangered by affairs in Egypt, and made the ultimate conclusion of the negotiations more difficult of attainment. It is to be hoped that the future relations between the two powers will be of a more friendly and pacific character, and on a footing advantageous to both, as well as to the colonies.
