RESIGNATION OF THE PRIMATE OF NEW ZEALAND.
[BY TELMCJUATII. —I’KKSS ASSOCI.UInN.] Wellington, Saturday. Last night the Synod passed a iv-.intion expressing regret at the Bishops resignation. In acknowledging it the Bishop said he wished to explain in some measure the chief reasons that had induced him to determine to retire. He had received a communication from the Archbishop of Canterbury in reference to attending the conference to be held in London next year, as part of his duties as Brimate and representative of the whole of the province. He felt that it was a question whether he could possibly accept the invitation to be present. Although physically he might bear the voyage and troubles attendant on such an expedition, he still felt that he was at a great disadvantage through his defective hearing. He felt he was not capable of taking that part in the conference which it was necessary lie should.
