CAMBRIDGE.
Lawn Tennis Cr.un Erpe.—The members of this club held a fancy folo on .Saturday last, one shilling admission being charged, to defray the cost of a new sand court that has lately been laid, and if there should be a surplus it will bo handed over to the Library Improvement Fund. The attendance was good, about IbO being present, and if the weather had been more settled wo do not doubt but that the number would have been greatly increased. Many of the members were attired in fancy costume, and played several sets during the afternoon, which appeared to greatly amuse the spectators. The Cambridge band was in attendance, and the lady members provided tea and a host of other good things which they handed round. Among the members in fancy dress we noticed the following ;—Mrs W. S, .-stewnrt, M.A. of Dublin l iuvor sity ; Mrs John Hally, .Jenny Deans ; Miss Dwynneth, Tyrolese Peasant; Miss I!. Mackay, ('.leaner; Miss X. Mackay, Haymaker; Miss R. Young, .Spanish Lady; Miss M. Young, French fishwoman ; Miss Moon, Tennis; Miss Ethel Hill, Draco Darling; Miss H. Hill, Swiss Peasant; and Miss Doff, Hospital nurse. Messrs E. W. Cook, “ Jinn thorn;" D. E. J’orter, swell nigger ; J. Anaemic, J’ago of Henry V. ; W. Chambers, Cfreek; H. Wilson, naval; Sf. Hunt, pack of cards ; S. Chambers, sailor ; and J, Hull and jj. J. Parry, tennis. During the latter part of the afternoon Mr Ansenne appeared as a Swiss shepherd, and Mr Porter caused great amusement by appearing on a pony that is well-known in Cambridge as “Jumbo.” Mr Xowriok took a photo ot the members in fancy costume, grouped with Jumbo in the background. Wo trust a substantial amount has been realised, so that the library fund, which is in need of (;olp, may benefit thereby. After’the minutes of the previous meeting had been read and confirmed, the clerk reported a credit balance at the bank of Jgß'fj ;) s He also reported that the Waikato County Council had decided not to license McCann's section at Hautapn, for a slanghtoryaid, as they were of opinion that the sanitary arrangements would not prove satisfactory, and furthermore that a local body would have to look after it, if 'it was licensed, and the nearest would be the Council, whom they did not think would undertake the work.—Mr Forrest said that since the decision referred to by the Clerk had been arrived at. ho had seen several of the members of fhe Council, and lie thought they were nopF ni Dvopp of a license being granted ; at any rate, he should make another application.—Mr Forrest was authorised to call for and accept tenders for gravelling the road past Mr Douglas’ farm, and also to expend a , further sijir, of i'.'i op Ho.
