At the inquest to-day on the body of the child found near the Thistle Hotel, tile jury, after a few minutes’ consultation, returned the following verdict;—“ That the newly-horn female child, whose death was concealed, died either from hemorrhage, through the navel string being left untied, or from suffocation at the time of its birth, and was found dead and exposed, bit whether neglect was caused through the ignorance or incapacity of the mother, or • n dice with wilful felonious intent, there is no evidence to show.” Placing Stones on the Railway. A lad named William Walker was lined 30s for placing stones on the railway near liocky Nook. The Magistrate commented on the gravity of the offence, and said the Public Works Act allowed a penalty of £7O for it. Sale of Racehorses. The racehorses, Guy Fawkes and Omata, were submitted by auction at Hnnter and Nolan’s to-day, and both knocked down to Mr J. B. Williamson at 45 guineas and 30 guineas, respectively. Sharemarket. The sharemarket to day was pretty busy. A good few hundreds of Cambrias changed hands from 4s ild to or 2d. They are turn now, with numerous buyers at ss.
