IFKOM DUIt OWN COKHKsrONDENT.I Tk Aiioha, Monday. The regular monthly meeting of the Tnv n Board was held on Saturday evening, the members present being Messrs Frazer (chairman, pro. lain.), Hotchiu ami Dobson. The minutes of the previous monthly and special meetings were road and confirmed. Conespondcncc was dealt with as follows : Letter from Mr Frederick Cock, I’aeroa, requesting information as to tho views of the Board respecting the course to l.e adopted in the matter of the extension of tho honndaiies of the Thames Harbour District. Received. Telegram from Mr J. A. Miller, solicitor, Thames, anent the appointment of a vainer, and holding an Assessment Court to fix values of property for rating purposes. Clerk was instructed to obtain from Mr Miller fuller information regarding details. Report from pnnndkeepcr with statement showing proportion of fees due to the Board for month of August Is Sd and September, to date, os '.ld. Letter from clerk of I'iako Comity County Council with remittance of £1 17s lid, being proportion of dog-tax collected within the Town District and due to the Board. It was decided that the registration fee within the district be at the rate of 5s per annum for the remainder nf the year. It was unanimously resolved that the by-laws of the Board come into operation on and after tho 15th October, and that notice of their enforcement be duly given by advertisement. The following accounts were passed for payment:-—F. McOeiitt. balance, £7 10s; J. Barr, balance, £l2 7s fid ; Waikato Times, £2 10s; J. Oare, £2 10s ; rent, £2 ; clerk, £2 16s ; do. sundries, 17s 2d; engineer, £4 Is 3d ;P. Dillon, £I!I Is (the last named subject to the approval of the Works Committee). This concluded the business.
A severe thunderstorm, accompanied by heavy showers of hail and rain, passed over the town and neighbourhood on Saturday. Its worst effects was experienced at Waiorongnmai, but fortunately no serious injury was done. Two of the men working on the tramway had, however, a narrow escape, both being momentarily paralysed by a blinding flash of lightning. Public interest is absorbed in the elections, and during the past few days little else has been talked about.
