THE NOMINATIONS AT CAMBRIDGE.

TO THK KDITOH. Sir, —Allow me to correct a misstatement made by Mr Forrest re the nomination of Mr G. W. Russell. Mr Forrest would lead the public to believe that, in a most bland and gentlemanly manner, he addressed me on this subject. I quote his own words: When requested by me that Mr Russell should be nominated first, as the candidate first in the field, he said, “No,’’ and Mr Clements replied that they would give, place to better men. I said to Mr Forrest, “You will go first.” He said, “Do you think we are fools? If you are not sharp about it, I will step forward, and nominate Mr Whyte myself.” As to any concoction on the part of Mr Whyte’s committee, 1 deny it point blank, as not a soul knew anything about it save Mr flwynneth and myself, and it was done on the spur of the moment, and would never have occurred but for Mr Forrest's threat. It is amusing that Mr Forrest should flatter himself that our side feared his oratory, or any remarks likely to be put forward by Mr Forrest. He has not been regarded as an object of terror yet by Mr Whyte’s committee, nor did one of its members wish to debar him from speaking. Certainly, there was a good deal of friendly chaff going on during Saturday afternoon to the effect that Mr Forrest was got up, regardless of cost, for the occasion, and to have disappointed him of his speech was a shame. Trusting this will be the last time during this election I shall trouble you, I am, &c.,
