IN MEMORIAM.
Mounx for the lost, mourn for the fallen foe, Waikato weeping willows wail with woe; What form comes floating on thy foaming waters, Unknown to Wellington, her sons, or daughters ? Tis he, tlie rash, who rushes from Cambridge bustle AVith AVhite victorious vengeful war to rustle. Alas poor youth, and did thy mission fail, Whilst unavailing was the aid of Vaile ; Why did’st thou leave the apron of thy mammy To trust too much to Auckland’s Soajry Sammy ? Now art thou gone, thy life was but a vapour Mist in the morning ; (as was not thy paper). Perhaps Protection plank was not the charmer To catch the vote of any kind of fanner ; Perhaps they thought it just too neat a job To want to ride to Auckland for “ two bob” ; Perhaps they thought that silly word Retrenchment For you a good screw in the House’s bench meant. Poor spirit, rest in peace, thy gas is gone, Thy light put out, and thou art all alone, Aha.
