Class-firing (first period.)

The first squad of the above company paraded for class’.-firing at the range, on Saturday afternoon,in coramandiof Captain Reid Notwithstanding the unfavourable weather, good shooting was made, and all obtained, with one exception, the requisite number of points (35) to entitle them to fire in the next period. The conditions for recruit firing arelo rounds at 100 yards, five kneeling and five standing; 10 rounds at 200 yards, five lying down and five kneeling. Target Gft. x 4ft; bull’s-eyo, 12in. diameter, centre, 3ft. diameter, outer, remainder of target. The following are the scores of those who made 35 and over ■I AA OAA

Private H. Tristram, who did his classHiring some time ago, scored 34 and 29 respectively, beating the best score on Saturday last by one point.

Church Parade.

On Sunday last the corps ’paraded for church, and fell in on Sydney Square, there being over 60 of all ranks present. Headed by the band, they marched to S. Peter’s Church, where His Lordship the Bishop of Auckland gave an impressive sermon, taking tor his text Ist Corinthians xiv., 8— “ For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?” After church they marched back to Sydney Square, where they were dismissed.
