A SOLUTION OF THE TARAWERA ERUPTION.

TO THU EDITOR. •Sir, — I see a letter in your issue of the IStli signed Thus. Wells, showing the electors where Mr J. 15. Whyte has got nearly half a million lor Walkati; but 1 think I can show yon where ho would have got at least two million benefit for Waikato, if his plans for the good of Waikato had not been frustrated by his opponents. Mr J. B, Whyte’s modesty, at his addresses to the electors, has prevented him from telling what is well known-that it was through his influence the Tar.iwora eruption was caused, and he intended the a-hos, which are proving so fertilising, should have been thrown on Upper Waikato, bat the Stoul’’■■gel Government, for political purposes, caused them to be thrown on Tauranga and surrounding country, as a sop to secure their return to cilice at tho present election. Mr Wells is evidently in the dark about this disinterested labour of Mr Whyte, and just as much to tho credit of Mr Whyte, although he did not got what he wanted, as the other advantages mentioned by Mr Wells, ami I think a far better bunch of carrots for Mr Wells to “ shake ” before the electors, 1 got the above information from “ Fanner John,” and ho.says, instead of the ashes that should have come, he has now to employ the old fertilising gas used HO years ago toimprove his farm.—l am, yours, &c., Ax Elector.
