ANNEXATION OF NEW GUINEA.

In tlj<- House of Commons today, Lord Holland, Secretary for the Colonies, replying to a question stated that the British Sovereignty would he proclaimed over the teritory of New Cuinea, now under a Protectorate, so soon as the New Guinea Bill proposed hy Queensland, and adopted at the Conference held in London this year, had passed colonial Legislative Assemblies. Lord Holland further stated that the questions, relating to pioneer settlers and the trade of New Guinea would, lie reserved until the sovereignty had been proclaimed. In answer to another question, the Secretary for the Colonies said that the sanction of the House of Commons to the contribution for the Australasian naval force was not necessary, but he deprecated any refusal of such a vote as would surprise and dissatisfy the colonies.
