MR J. B. WHYIE AND PIAKO COUNTY RATEPAYERS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —It is a common thing to tioar the supporters of the Government candidate for Waikato exclaim—What lias J. B. Whyte done for the district? What lias he not done would be less easy to answer. No man has done more since he has been in I’arliament than Mr Whyte to bring the wants of the district before the Ministry of the day, and to pot what ho asked for. But if Mr Whyte had done nothing more than one thing that he did in the session of ISSG, namely, to obtain the separation of the Piako County Council from the Thames hospital district after the most strenuous opposition from Government supporters, ho has done sufficient to deserve the gratitude of the ratepayers, who, but for him, would still be tagged on to a hospital and charitable aid district as a useful milch cow which gave down much milk at little cost. That this service, amongst many others, should be lost sight of at the present time is to be regretted.—Yours truly,
A Piako Settler, Taotaoroa, August Oth, 1887.
