Waiteti v. Cambridge

Tun above teams met at Cambridge on .Saturday afternoon, and alter a desperate struggle in the wet and mud had to be cuntent with a draw, neither side having scored. Thn game was in favour of IVaiteti, as they compelled Cambridge to force down four times. As soon as the first spell commenced, it became evident that the Waiteti men were too strong in the scrummages for the Cambridge, but the ground was in such a slippery state that it was no use Cambridge trying an open game, in which they would have slmno bad their men been able to stand. Tho game was played in a very good-tempered manner, considering the number of falls and bumps, but we must admit we never beard tho umpires whistles going so much at any previous match, clearly showing that there were some young bauds who have yet to learn. The teams were as follows; Cambridge: Hunt (captain), Graham (-), Moon, Porter, Kallender, Hannon (2), McCann (2), Wilson, Richardson, C. Could, I’altridge and Jumbo. Waiteti : J. Clarkin (captain), (2), H. Lanahan, Billings. J. Phibbs, J. Hand, Conroy, Morrisey, F. Odium, I*. Stewart, R. McKenzie, B. Champion, O. Anderson and W. Davies. Messrs Manktclow and Parry were umpires for Waiteti and Cambridge respectively. A number of spectators viewed tho match, and wore highly amused at the excited state into which a partisan of tho Waiteto team, who wore a red scarf, worked himself. If they did not win, he is certainly not to blame. o trust we shall soon have the pleasure of seeing another match between these teams.
