All concerned in the frozen meat trade will be glad to learn that the Shaw, Suvillo, and Albion Company have intimated at Dunedin that they are prepared to carry frozen meat at a penny farthing per pound freight. They are also prepared to buy mutton put on board their freezing bulk at Port Chalmers at twopence per pound. No doubt the same concession will be afforded to those engaged in the same trade and shipping at Auckland and other ports in New Zealand where this company’s vessels call for cargo. This reduction in freights speaks well for the company, and will be very acceptable to the producers. We are also pleased to learn that an endeavour is being made at Home by some old colonists to have agencies established in all the principal towns. If this is done, we shall no doubt soon hear of an improvement in prices, as the producer and consumer will in this way be brought into closer relationship with each other with advantage to both by sharing what now goes to the middlemen.
