As international show of dairy produce and implements is being organised by the Italian Minister of Agriculture, to be held at Parma early in September. The classes include preserved milk, butter, cheese, machines and utensils for making butter and cheese, instruments for testing and measuring milk, models of dairies, systems of managing dairies, and instructions in dairying. Thirty years ago a favourable review in the Times of a new novel was enough to sell a largo edition, but its prestige has utterly departed. Recently a new story was highly praised in a long and elaborate notice, and I hear from unexceptionable authority that the sole result of the Times review was a sale of two copies. Admirers of Mrs. Henry Wood will hear with pleasure that, in addition to “Lady Grace” the novel that is now coming out in the Argosy, she has left behind her another complete story, that will appear next year in the same magazine ; also two long “ Johnny Ludlow” tales, and several short stories of this inimitable series. It is highly probable that a Cambridge eight will go to America in the Autumn to do battle against Harvard. Anyhow, a challenge from the latter University is now under the consideration of the Cantab authorities, and every effort will be made to accept it. The new Opera-house at Odessa will most probably bo opened during the autumn, under the direction of Mr. Mapleson. It is stated that the tew house will bo one of the most elegant in Europe; the cost of the building is estimated at sjoo0 t OOO francs,
