(FROM OUR OWN COKIIKSPONDENT.) Te Akoua, Wednesday. The quarterly meeting of the vestry of S. Mark’s Church was held on Monday afternoon. Present: Rev. J. Marshall, Messrs Aider, Marsdeu, Dobson, Heathcoto, and Pyno. A statement of accounts for the half year, ending June 30th, was submitted by the treasurer as follows General fund. Credit : Refund on parsonage site, us; offertory, £43 19s 4!). Total, £46 4s 4d. Debtor : Balance at December last, £3 11s 4d ; rent parsonage site, £4 ; survey of same, £1 I4s !M; minister’s stipend, £l2 10s; lamps, kerosene, &c., £2 2& 10 ; cleaning, &c., £1 17s Id. Total, £27 16s, leaving a credit balance of £IS Ss 4d. Liabilities at June 30th : Minister’s stipend, £l2 10s; advertising, £2 10s; additional, seats £2 17s 3d; cleaning and lighting, £1 15s; sundry small accounts, £1 16s 3d. Total, £2l Ss Gd. Building fund: Credit balance at December 31st, £62 4s 4d ; subscription from Mr Hoathcote, £1 ISs ; sales of bazaar material, £lO 10s 66 ; proceeds of entertainment, £2 2s. Total, £76 14s lOd. Debtor: Bell, £S 7s ; carpet, £4 ; fencing, £3S 12s 7d ; supervising works, £1 ISs; payment on organ account, £lO ; fixing bell, £2 us ; interest, £4 8s 7d. Total, £69 11s 2d, leaving a credit balance of £7 3s Sd. Liabilities : Interest owing to standing committee, £4 ; reduction on loan, £ls. Total, £l9. On the church there still exists a debt of £lO4, and on the organ £42 10s, making the total amount of the liabilities—less the £7 3s Sd shown above—£l46 10s. The position of minister's warden, rendered vacant by the departure of Mr G. A. Burgess, was accepted by Mr G. W. P. Marsdon. It was resolved that evening service be held every Sunday, instead of only three times a month as hitherto, the Rev. Mr Marshall to take the necessary steps for the appointment of a layreader, and to arrange for having two services each Sunday as often as possible. Some other matters of minor importance were discussed, and the meeting closed. The RM. Court sat yesterday, Mr Stratford presiding. Judgment was given in only one case. J. Wood vC. Everett, claim for goods supplied, and interest £4 16s 3d. Judgment for £4 os 9d and costs 6s.

In the Warden’s Court there was a fair amount of business. An application for a renewal of protection, by the owners of the Champion Lode claims, Nos 1, 2 and 3, together withtheGladstone and Albion, was heard. Mr J. Friar Clarke, who appeared for the owners, stated that telegrams had recently been received from England, intimating that a company would be floated soon to take over the ground. On the strength of this statement three months protection, dating from June 2Sth was granted, hut the Warden intimated that at the expiration of that period, the company would have to employ men to work the ground. A renewal of protection was also applied for by the owners of the Surprise Champion lode, No 4, Keep it Dark, and Mark Moon claims, and was granted on the same conditions as in the previous case. All these claims are situated at Tui creek : David Pierce Hughes was granted protection for his claim at Waiorongomai tor three months dating from June 22nd. The application of Nicholas Cleary for the Earl of Aberdeen licensed holding, comprising about 20 acres at Tui creek, was granted. The hearing of the application of J. A. Dobson, for the Ruakaka claim was further adjourned till the 23rd of August, the corrected plan not having yet been received from the survey office. The right to occupy the following business and residence sites was granted to H. Southey, for allotment 16 Waiorongomai township ; to Win. Dihsell, for allotment 21 Waiorongomai ; to Robt. Harris for allotment I, block 10 Te Aroha.
