ELECTORAL ITEMS.

A correspondent writes :—lt is rumoured that Mr Russell, finding but little encouragement in his canvass of Waikato, is now looking round for pastures new, and it is said ha is casting longing eyes upon Waipa and Tauranga, where the Government influence is supposed to be greater than in Waikato. His ultimate choice will probably bo settled by Mr Ballance, in the interests of the Government, when he pays ids long-promised electioneering visit to these districts. “ Waipa elector” writes to tlie Editor ; Sir,—l v;as expecting before this to have seen some move as to the coming M.H.R. for the Waipa district. I think we have a good man in Hamilton, viz., Mr W. A. Graham, who in spite of some mistakes, has done more for the district than any one man since it became an electoral district. I hope some one with a little spirit will take the matter up, and get a requisition signed asking him to stand. [BY telegraph—own cokrespondent.l Paeroa, Monday. It is stated here that Paeroa and Karangahake will be cut off from Tauranga, and joined on to the Coromandel electorate, tile balance of Ohinemnri county being again sub-divided, tho W.-iihi portion going into Tauranga and tlie Waitoa riding into Waikato. If this is correct it will be a serious thing for this goldfield, which will then possess actually no political influence.

Tauranga, Monday. ■V cable has just been received from Mr Vesey Stewart, to the effect that lie lias left London for New Zealand, and will contest the Tauranga seat. Gbetmouth, Monday. A telegram received in town states that Mr Menteath, the member for Inangalma, lias definitely decided not to sock re-elec-tion fur this constituency. A good deal of regret is felt.
