CHEAP MEAT.

TO THIS EDITOR.; - . ?, Sib,—ln Saturday's issue I noticed a lotter signed " Waipa. Grazier," who seems to be pretty rough on the present " knights of tha cleaver," and being oup of, tfiat class I suppose ;I'.am Hdwever, : I am much obliged to him, whosoever he may be, for his sti-ong hint, and I would advise him . tp do as other Waipa graziers are doing, and send his mutton to the Hamilton Auction^'.Mart, and thus the knights of the clever " taking advantage of him. lam sure he would have no cause to regret sending his best quality mutton' at beef to the mart. But mind, it must ■be first quality, or otherwise it may not compete satisfactorily with that regularly, sent in, the bidding for which is splendid, and all for cash. I was under the impression that cash, was a scarcity in Hamilton, but Mr John Knox seems to know how to sell for cash. I wish his mart and the selling of cheap meat every success," and would suggest that the "knights of the cleaver" also would patronise it more than they do. In my own particular case I find I can obtain more by three farthings per pound than I retail in the shop at. Another word, in ' conclusion, Mr Editor. When I first com-1 menced—thirteen months ago—here in this; awfully profitable business I found I was; compelled to give a mouth's clear notice through your valuable paper, and ahw pay; three guineas before I could obtain a: license to slaughter for sale. Yet our, friend Mr Jolly can commence to] slaughter at once without giving any] riotico or taking any license whatever. Is : this "equal and exact justice to all men?"; With all duo respect to Mr Jolly, whom I don't blame in this least if,; he can do it, : " as. it is the "only way by "which he can dispose? of his mutton satisfactorily, at the same,' time, let him pay for his license and compete openly with us. I would again sug-j gest that the " knights,ot the pleaver," in j the township would combine together and! go to the expanse of sifting the niatter< out in a thorough legal manner. Surely there is riot such, a cut-throat feeling existing but that we might arrange this; a:npngst us, and thus compel Mr Jolly toi take Out his license in a proper manner. — j I am, yours faithfully, * 'J. Bettley, Butcher. ; Hamilton, June 27th.
