CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Public Works Committee met at 3 p.m. on Tuesday for the purpose of receiving tenders. Present: The Mayor (Mr Gwynnefh) and Crs. Clements and Gillett. The tenders for re-roofing the Public Hall were as follows : —W. Murphy : Iron, £41 10s ; kauri shingles, £38 10s; R. Morse : Iron, £44 19s ; kauri shingles, £32 4s; Miller and Dodd: Iron, £45 lGs; kauri shingles, £36 14s ; kahikatea shingles, £29 10s; W. F. Madigan : Iron, £49 10s ; kauri shingles, £4310s ; kahikatea shingles, £35. After a protracted discussion as to the advisability of using iron in consequence of the noise that would be made by rain falling upon it, it wa3 resolved that Mr Murphy's tender for roofing the hall with iron for the sum of £4110s be acccptod. For the position of surfaceman for the ensuing year the tenders were as follows :— George Mann, fls 8d per day; G. Hamblin, 9s; D. Stewart, ss; H. Armer, ss; F. Diver, 5s ; VV. Bartlett, 4s (id. ■ The Mayor said there was nothing against Bartlett, who had been surfaceman for some time, but it was thought right, to give others an opportunity of tendering. On the motion of Cr. Clements, seconded by the Mayor, Bartlett was re-appointed. This wa3 all the business.
