THE "KEEN CONTEST" FOR FOX TON.
TO THE EDITOB. Sir.—Perhaps it will relieve Mr Hartley's mind and Mr Russell's also, if I tell him that for several months back, many in this district have known the result of the Foxton contest in a general way. There has also j been resident Jin this district at last one man who was present at it, and could tell a great deal about it, and what happened after it, if Mr Russell desires. As regards Mr Whyte, he having the Parliamentary papers of JBS2 in his house, could havo written accurately on the subject and not made the mistake I made, if he had thought it worth his while. His are however not tho only set of Parliamentary papers in the district. Mr Russell asks me to give my name, so that people may know how much stake in the country I have. Now, I admit mj T stake in the country is very small, but still I think it is "greater than Mr Russell's. I do not sign my name as, having a humble opinion of my own importance, I don't think doing so would add weight to my letters. As. I have written nothing scurrilous or libellous, and have no wish to do so I think I may continue to sign my«elf, without unfairness to anyone, Duke-Strket.
