A contributor to the Paris Figaro, who is now in St. Petersburg, has boor, favoured with interviews by some prominent public men in that city, who seemqd to be very anxious to assure the French people that they have a firm friend in Russia ; and the Baron de Somini, among wsl very emphatic in his assertions that the Czar has no intention of allowing Germany to defeat France a second time. "In my own opinion," said he, "war, if it takes place, will be a protracted one, and will last for more than a year, which will be all in your favour. Bismarck knows very well that your army is a good one ; he does not want war, but he is so subtile, so accomplished in diplomacy, that ha must await whatever may happen,"
